Many wise people have said many wise things about boredom. I have but one observation: boredom is a luxury of the childless.

I don't miss the sensation, exactly, (I don't have time) but it is odd to realize that it will be many, many years before I feel it again.

Thomas, at 4.5 months, is working on his sitting up. He has a reclining chair that is no longer good enough for him unless he is sitting up. He struggles and strains and is quite perturbed until he pulls himself (with maybe a little help from the proud parents) to a sitting position and then gets this "I am the king" so proud look on his cute little face.

I think this one act is locked in his little brain because it seems to be all he can think about. "Rolling over was soooo last week, and giggling is like for 4 month olds...I am 4 and a half and I want to sit." Last night at 4 am he would not sleep because his little brain was wired and he wanted to sit. We brought him to bed and he was fussing and babbling and generally not happy. Amanda then lifted him to a sitting position and within 30 seconds he was fast asleep propped up in that sitting position. His little noggin needed the sitting-up release and then was quite content to fall back to sleep.

It is all fun to watch but I would prefer something in the middle of the day, rather than at 4am!
