Swimming with Thomas

We thought we should share some video of Thomas and his first couple of swims.

The first few swims were during our Blue Mountain vacation week and then another swim a couple of days ago chez grandpa Brad and grandma JD.

He has really taken to the water and is paddling up a storm!

Sun, Suds, Solids...(and Snacks at 120km/h!)

The Mannaiz clan is at Blue Mountain this week, enjoying a nice relaxing week away. We are staying at the Club Intrawest resort and it is quite a nice place and the weather has been an absolutely ideal 25-29 and sunny.

On the trip down, we stopped in T.O. to visit friends, Colin and Dilek, and see their little ones Alison and Justin. Our little extroverted Mr. TomTom loved playing with them and all their cool toys. After a two and a half hour nap, and a failed attempt to nurse him at a service centre in Kingston (he didn't seem to grasp that he could be fed outside our house), Amanda had to resort to putting a blanket over her head and leaning over Thomas in the back of the car - feeding him right in his carseat - as we passed through Trenton on the 401. Surprisingly, it worked! Though we don't win any awards for safety...

Then on to Burlington and a night with Granny A and Grandpa Don where he was quite well behaved. Watching Thomas play with Granny was a treat...as was the food that we were served during our short stay.

We then had a sunny, backroads drive through southwestern Ontario, through through villages and towns like Creemore, Nottawa and Collingwood to the base of Blue Mountain (actually it should Blue Hill!). The Intrawest resort it top notch, basically everything is as it should be - clean, well finished, helpful staff, free laundry, free internet, etc, etc, etc.

It has been a huge week for Thomas, he has had his first long drive and tackled that quite well, he got to see his Granny for the first time since he was a week old, he has started swimming and has taken to that with flair, paddling around the pool in a little raft, splashing and smiling all the while...and he has started eating solids! For the past few weeks, he has been quite keen on getting his hands and mouth on whatever food we were eating. He has been watching very intently and grabbing at plates and food, even opening his mouth and chewing when we chewed. So yesterday we gave him a small bit of banana and then this afternoon we gave him some rice cereal. He took to both quite quickly and it looks like we have a good little eater on our hands.

In other news, since we have been staying in a studio, there is no easy and quiet place for Thomas to sleep, except in...the shower room. It has actually worked out rather well for us as we have put his portable crib in the little shower room and then close both the main bathroom door and the door to the shower area. It has really worked out well, leaving us with the ability to enjoy our dinners, have a beer or a few glasses of wine, watch movies, or just sit on the porch and enjoy the summer nights.

It has felt like a cottage week and we are all having a great time.
